Welcome!
2Groove Latin Dance Studio,
formerly known as Salsa Groove, introduces its new innovative yet interactive website designed to enhance the student’s online experience. For starters, we have been working diligently to bring students a comprehensive website full of many capabilities. But first, let’s start with a little history.
In January 2000, Salsa Groove was founded by Elizabeth Martinez with the guidance of her husband. She had provided instruction and workshops at various venues in New York and New Jersey including dance schools, private companies, Central Park and Cultural Institutions such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
Furthermore, Elizabeth has studied with several renowned instructors (Duplessey Walker, Jorday Rivera, Thomas Guerrero, Carlito Figueroa, etc.) in Mambo/Salsa and with her final mentor, Eddie Torres. As a member of the Eddie Torres Latin Dance Company, she trained as a professional performer for a year before leaving to Miami, Florida to pursue other endeavors.
Eddie Torres, the Mambo King, is an inspiration for many of us. He is the driving force for the resurgence of interest in Mambo dancing ("New York Style on 2"). Eddie Torres was part of the Post-Palladium or "second generation" of Mambo dancers who kept Mambo alive. He has inspired thousands of dancers through his studio www.eddietorres.com, the performances of his dance troupe-- Eddie Torres Latin Dance Company and his instructional videos. He is world renowned as a creative, innovative Latin dance teacher, performer, and choreographer.
Salsa Groove was renamed 2Groove Latin Dance Center to encompass the various Latin dances that will be introduced in the near future. The school strives on teaching students the fundamentals in developing listening skills to hear the timing and clave. Music theory is introduced in the Intermediate/Advance level class to allow students to progress to the next level.
The tagline “Capturing the Latin Rhythm” is based on being able to feel the music through the clave. We feel that dancing should come from the heart and soul. This is why we have a clear and easy-to-follow core syllabus structured to help students through each level of progression. In addition, workshops or practice sessions are offered to reinforce basics steps and/or turn-patterns. We thrive on helping you grow and becoming the best dancer on the dance floor!
Now, let me introduce you to the various capabilities of the site:
- Download turn-patterns
- Register or Pay Online using a
major credit card
- Purchase dance shoes
- Receive monthly newsletter
- Learn Mambo Glossary
- Print Music Centre

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Martinez Founder/Director
